The Basic Operations
Build Your Basics
Understanding the four basic mathematical operations (not memorizing steps!) provides a strong foundation for the math skills you need for the GED®.
STEP 1: WATCH THE VIRTUAL CLASS VIDEO AND TAKE NOTES
Make sure to note the following:
The four basic operations and their inverses
The symbols (operands) mathematicians use to indicate each operation
The vocabulary words sum, difference, product, and quotient
The definition of each operation
Do you have a question about the class video, practice, or example problems? Post a picture to our FB group for immediate assistance. Be sure to include the lesson name and level in your post.
STEP 2: COMPLETE ONE LEVEL OF PRACTICE
BEGINNER
Preparing for algebra? Practice identifying the four basic operations and their inverses and writing simple arithmetic expressions.
EXPERIENCED
Ready to see how this skill applies to algebra? Practice inverses and writing simple algebraic expressions with more operations.
ADVANCED
Already familiar with algebra? Deepen understanding by writing and simplifying algebraic expressions with basic operations.
